|
What is the application process? |
| |
Submission of required documents -> Screening process -> Notice of admission ->Tuition payment -> Admission letter, if requested
|
How can students confirm that documents have been received by KLI? |
| |
Screening process for application usually takes 1 or 2 weeks. KLI will inform you of your acceptance to the program by e-mail, and upon receiving the KLI acceptance e-mail, you need to pay the tuition fee for your term.
|
Can KLI send an admission letter by express mail? |
| |
KLI normally sends an admission letter by regular post. If you wish to receive the admission letter by EMS or DHL, you must pay the mailing fee beforehand. The fee is around $20.
|
Can I submit my application form by the registration deadline? |
| |
Registration Deadline means that the student should pay their tuition fee by that day. Therefore, students should send applications at least 1 week before the registration deadline.
|
Can I receive a scholarship at KLI? |
| |
There is no specific scholarship (or discount) for Korean adoptees or overseas Koreans. However, we do have tuition merit awards. Students who have completed at lease two terms and whose Korean language improvement and class attendance have been outstanding will be awarded a scholarship which consists of a 50% reduction of their term's tuition. There are also other scholarships available through private foundations and institutions. We recommend searching the internet for more information or checking the Korea Foundation website for more information.

Do I need a visa if I am only going to study for 1 term at KLI (less than 90 days)? |
| |
All students must have a visa whether or not they are going to study for an extended period or only one term. If you are going to be in Korea less than 90 days then you should apply for the C-3 short-term visa. This visa is generally called a tourist visa or a visiting visa. Students who are planning to study at KLI for only one term (10 weeks) may apply for the C-3 visa. This visa is good for 3 months and can be issued immediately upon application at either a Korean Embassy or a Consulate office. The carrier of this visa should coordinate his/her length of study in Korea within the effective days of the visa so as to avoid risking visa expiration during the course of study. If this happens, KLI can not issue refunds for the last class time.
|
What if I do not have a Korean sponsor? Can your office help me find one? |
| |
If it is difficult for you to find a Korean sponsor or prepare sponsorship letters, you should apply for a 90-day visa at the Korean Embassy in your country. You can change your visa status into a student visa and extend the length of validity in Korea after you arrive.

Does KLI offer health insurance? |
| |
You do not need health insurance in order to attend KLI; however, in the event that you do not have insurance and are hurt during your stay in Korea you might find it more difficult to receive and pay for medical treatment. If you do not have health insurance, the Health Insurance Public Corporation provides foreigners in Korea with a health insurance service. If you have an alien registration card and an enrollment certificate, you can apply for this health insurance. The fee will vary according to the insurance recipient's financial ability but the average fee is about 50,000 Won per month. You must pay a fee for coverage 6 months in advance. Once you apply for this insurance you can pay for medical treatment at a reasonable price at hospitals and pharmacies.

Where can I find more information about off-campus housing? |
| |
Unfortunately, the off-campus housing opportunities available to you may be limited. In general, the boarding houses and one-room apartments surrounding the school cost about 400,000~500,000 Won per month. You may be able to share a room at a boarding house for around 300,000 but you will be living with a roommate and will not have your own kitchen or bathroom. If you need more help with finding a boarding house please call our office during our regular hours and we may be able to help you. If you do not get into the dormitory there are other off-campus housing choices that you might consider. Many of KLI's students live in a 'hasookjib' or one-room apartments close to campus. If necessary, the KLI office will help you find accommodations near the campus. A landlord of a hasookjib will rent several rooms to students, provide 2 meals (breakfast and dinner) daily, and provide light laundry service. The cost of housing will vary as living conditions will depend on each hasook jib. Students can choose to live in a single room or double room. On average a single room will cost about 400,000~500,000 Won per month ($450 US). |
