The Korean Language Institute was established on April 1st, 1959 as the first institute in Korea to provide intensive Korean Language courses to foreign students, professors, missionaries and diplomatic officials. The KLI offers courses in Korean language as well as courses in Korean culture and history. As the oldest prestige Korean training Institution in Korea, the KLI has produced over 70,000 students from 128 countries for half a century.

The KLI will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2009 with events and activities planned throughout the calendar year. In marking our 50th anniversary, we aim to strike a balance between academic achievement and celebration, respect the past, celebrate the present and leave a legacy for the future.
We also take this opportunity to thank students (past and present), their families and staff for their contribution towards making the KLI what it is today.
