To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Korean Language Institute this year, Korean Language Writing Contests was held in universities and high schools in six countries, including China, Vietnam and the United States.

A total of 821 participants, 188 students from Defense Language Institute and 208 students from Sunny Hills High School, La Canada High School and Irvine High School in America, 98 students from University of Hanoi and Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, 111 students from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Doshisha University in Japan, 123 students from Beijing Foreign Studies University and Nanjing University in China, 63 students from Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages and Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan, 30 students from The University of New South Wales in Australia, participated in this contest. The Gold, Silver, Bronze and Encouragement Awards were awarded to 71 participants.
