Yonsei Korean Language Institute

The Online Global Korean Program is a live online Korean language program conducted via Zoom for students who are unable to attend in-person classes during the daytime due to work or personal circumstances, as well as students residing overseas.
All classes are conducted online via online ZOOM, and this program does NOT support Visa issuance or Visa extension.

• Program Duration: 10 weeks per semester
• Class Hours: Total of 90 hours per semester
• Academic Terms: 4 semesters per year
• Levels: Level 1–8  (※ Available levels may vary depending on placement test results each semester.)
• Class Schedule: 3 days per week (Mon, Tue, Thu), 6:30 PM–9:05 PM

• Application Fee (Non-refundable): KRW 120,000
• Tuition Fee (Per Semester): KRW 960,000

• Applicants residing overseas must check the time difference carefully and complete all procedures before the deadline.

  • • Eligibility: Applicants must have at least a high school diploma

      1. Copy of passport
      2. Certificate of graduation from the last school attended or a certificate of enrollment
         -If the documents are not in English or Korean, a translated version is required

    • If tution is increased, the additional amount must be paid.
    • The student is responsible for any bank fees incurred during remittance. Any differences due to exchange rates must also be paid additionally.

      - Payment via Korean banks: Virtual account payment through Inicis (Pay in KRW)
      - Payment from overseas: Payment through Flywire (Pay in foreign currency)

    • Refund Policy
      - Based on the date of submission of the refund application form
      - If requesting an international transfer, the amount excluding the transfer fee will be deposited.

• Academic Regulations
  • • Placement Test: Students will take the placement test online.
    • Class Cancellation: If a class has fewer than five students, it will be cancelled.
    • Advancement Requirement: Students must attend at least 80% of the total class hours to advance to the next level.
    • Failure Policy: If a student fails the same level twice, they will not be allowed to continue courses at Yonsei Korean Language Institute.
    • Format: The exam, orientation, and classes will all be conducted online.
    • Orientation: Orientation will be held on the first day of class, followed by real-time online lessons via Zoom.

  • Level 1

    • Textbook: Yonsei Korean in 3 Weeks 1
    • You can fully learn Hangul and read and write.
    • You know the basic pronunciation system and can accurately pronounce the initial, medial, and final sounds.
    • You can understand and use the basic structure of the Korean language and tense expressions.
    • You have the language skills necessary for basic daily life, such as greetings, self-introduction, and ordering food.

    • Textbook: Yonsei Korean in 3 Weeks 2
    • You can understand and use the basic structure of the Korean language, tense expressions, and sentence connection methods.
    • You can understand and use descriptive forms, conjecture expressions, reason expressions, plan expressions, and sequential expressions.
    • You have the language skills necessary for basic daily life, such as shopping, finding directions, using public transportation, and making phone calls.

    Level 3

    • Textbook: Yonsei Korean in 3 Weeks 3
    • You can accurately pronounce the individual sounds and phonetic rules of the Korean language in sentences.
    • You can use vocabulary related to introductions, food, shopping, invitations, and transportation.
    • You can use connected sentences and indirect sentences based on the simple sentences learned in Level 2.
    • You can appropriately use honorifics and informal language according to the conversation situation.

    • You can accurately pronounce the individual sounds and phonetic rules of the Korean language in sentences.
    • You can use vocabulary related to public institutions, phones, hospitals, travel, and household chores.
    • You can use indirect speech appropriately according to the conversation situation.
    • You can solve various problems encountered in daily life to some extent with the knowledge gained.
    • You can understand the simple daily culture.

    • You develop communication skills that enable daily life in Korea.
    • Through speaking practice such as storytelling, you learn to express your opinions correctly.
    • You listen to and understand dialogues with relatively complex contexts and read texts that help understand Korean society and thought patterns, thereby expanding your vocabulary.
    • You express your thoughts in prose through writing practice, enhancing the accuracy of grammar and vocabulary usage.

    • Based on the basic grammar learned from Levels 1 to 5, you can make various expressions.
    • You expand your vocabulary not only with everyday terms but also with Sino-Korean vocabulary, gaining a deeper understanding of Korean thought patterns and culture.
    • You can engage in daily conversation and express your opinions in detail through longer narratives. You can also write texts on everyday topics.
    • You can listen to and understand relatively long dialogues and texts about Korean society and culture, enhancing your understanding of the content.
